Bioretention is a low impact development practice in which water is conveyed to a shallow depression filled with plants, mulch, and growing media. Water and nutrients are taken up by plants, adsorbed in the media, exfiltrated into surrounding subsoils, and released to the atmosphere by evaporation. This fact shset describes the benefits and limitations of the practice.
